David Andersen opened his shop in Oslo, Norway during 1876 specialising in jewellery and silverwares. The Andersen name rose to prominence in the field of gold and silversmithery as he had a keen eye for quality and high standards of workmanship. He died in 1901 and his sons took over company operations and designs, during which time the beautiful enamel butterfly brooch was conceptualised.
